AI revolutionized the battlefield in 2023 as Israel, China lead development amid tech arms race

FOX News

America's Newsroom anchor Bill Hemmer looks back at the top headlines of the past 12 months. The mainstream attention on artificial intelligence (AI) in 2023 allowed militaries to more openly discuss some of the astonishing initiatives they've undertaken as they race toward the future of warfare. AI presented an entirely different challenge and revealed an arms race many did not even know had already gotten well underway: Advanced and automated targeting capabilities, virtual environment weapon testing and AI-controlled vehicles present just the tip of a substantial and rapidly developing iceberg. The allure of AI is so strong that the Pentagon has some 800 AI-related unclassified projects in the works to attain a "force multiplier" integration and gain the upper hand over its rivals. This year gave the general public a better idea of where militaries stand with their astonishing development and where they might head next.

China using AI to ease economic woes, but focus is to stand at the 'center of the revolution,' experts warn

FOX News

AI expert Marva Bailer tells Fox News Digital how the availability of artificial intelligence can have negative impacts and talks potential federal legislation to control it. China may rely on artificial intelligence (AI) to manage approaching economic troubles, but that is just one part of the spectrum of goals Beijing has for the burgeoning technology, experts told Fox News Digital. "Certainly, China has put artificial intelligence at the center of its economic and its military modernization efforts," Matt McInnis, senior fellow for the Institute for the Study of War's China program, said. "[China] sees artificial intelligence as a potential way to achieve economic and military superiority and potentially even help, you know, kind of provide a long-term foundation for much greater prosperity than it has been able to achieve in the past five years or decade. "I think China, in many ways, has almost put perhaps too many eggs in the AI basket, which I think is going to be concerning for them overtime, even though we all know that AI could be a real game changer in the world economy," McInnis added. "I don't think that's any different for China than it is for the United States.

American companies keep distance from China AI conference amid accessibility concerns

Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Daniel Davis provides analysis of the Biden administration's position with China as some critics argue the U.S. looks weak. American tech firms have noticeably pulled back from a major Chinese tech conference in a move that plays off on tensions that have simmered in the industry for some time, according to experts. "Beijing and Washington have long been on a collision course in terms of setting and shaping emerging technology standards, most notably those involving artificial intelligence," said Craig Singleton, senior China fellow at the nonpartisan Foundation for Defense of Democracies. "Increasingly, American technology executives understand that collaborating in any way with China's tech behemoths could quickly get them into hot water with U.S. policymakers. "As the tech war between the two countries continues to heat up, U.S. tech firms will increasingly be forced to choose sides," Singleton explained. "The likely result is that tech collaboration ...
